Hill Top Garden, Herefordshire

This recently planted garden took its form out of disused farmland, with the inherent challenges of being on an exposed hill with compacted, heavy clay soil. Created around a new build Regency house, the garden balances the formality of the architecture with the wildness and informality of the rolling Herefordshire countryside.

The design includes a swimming lake, formal entrance driveway, vegetable garden, entertaining space and a rose covered pergola. The surrounding wild-flower meadows create a pollinator’s haven, full of wildlife and bloom. With tree planting throughout and the creation of extensive borders, bursting with shrubs and perennials, there is an abundance of year-round colour and interest, as well as a much-needed barrier to the sometimes powerful winds.

We might think that we are nurturing our garden, but of course its our garden that is really nurturing us.
